Sighting Description Nineteen members joined Jim Weston and Mike Welcome on this annual trip. There was some initial confusion as there were 52 people at the rendezvous site and we thought we might be setting some new SOS group record. Fortunately 2 RSPB groups were also visitong the same area. The 3 group leaders liaised to ensure we all went different ways. The SOS group logged a total of 66 species. We had blue skies and super visibility all day. Good numbers of waders and wildfowl were logged in the harbour, the highlight perhaps being a summer plumaged Knot. On the sea were Slavonian and Great Crested Grebes, Eider and Red-breasted Mergansers and a few lucky observers focussed on to a Velvet Scoter. A group of feeding Gannets was just offshore. The day had started with a Merlin over the car park and other raptors included Kestrel, Sparrowhawk and Buzzard. A group of around 1700 Brent Geese flew in to give the group a grandstand view before they flew back to the fields at North Mundham. The North Fields were generally quiet but good numbers of Curlew and Black-tailed Godwits were seen.
