05.50 - 11.50: Another morning of looking at times at an empty sea - why do we put ourselves through this year after year? Where did the 2 Poms from Portland go? - they kept my hopes up for several hours and then I cursed the Isle of Wight as usual. Adam turned up at 10.00 hoping to catch them - hard luck son !! Anyway here is the tail of the tape: Gannet 28E 22W; Commic Tern 50E; Sandwich Terns 20E 16W; Arctic Tern 2E; Great Crested Grebe 1W; Red-throated Diver 2E; Sparrowhawk 1; Little Tern ca. 5 (there could have been more, but they seemed to be patrolling); Swallow 33N; Fulmar 16W; Whimbrel 4E; Common Scoter 74E; Wheatear 1m 2f; Brent Geese 6W; Bonxie 2E (09.20 & 09.33); auk sp 5E; Peregrine 1; Great Northern Diver 2os; House Martin 3N; Swift 1N; and Turnstone 21E. |
