| Sighting Description |
In response to Sharifin Gardiner's (possibly rhetorical) question, Firecrests have definitely become far more common in recent years - both british crest species' populations suffered terribly in the hard winters of the early 80s, but the mild conditions we've experienced since have allowed not only population recovery, but also perhaps greater numbers than were previously present. It's still quite lucky to get them in your garden though! this winter's predicted colder weather may well mean more urban and garden sightings as birds are forced to seek shelter and warmth.. Hopefully my favourite british bird species will not suffer losses like those of 25 years ago. |
