Sighting Description

A very interesting morning including a minimum of 10 Firecrests recorded. Finch passage and also numbers of Sky Larks, some Reed Buntings and a further arrival of thrushes. A late Honey Buzzard passed through.


Observers: ST, AG, CH, MG and AP


Weather: WSW breeze or calm, cloud 4/8 with sun and showers.


Torfield (07.35 - 08.40): thrush spp 4 W, Meadow Pipit 2 W, 8 Robins, 14 Chiffchaffs, 2 Firecrests, 7 Blackbirds, 3 Blue Tits, 4 Great Tits and 4 Chaffinches.


West Hill (07.45 - 09.30): Goldfinch 20 E, Linnet 10 W, Chaffinch 6 W, Siskin 9 E, Reed Bunting 2 in, Lesser redpoll 5 over. Also 6 Carrion Crows, 21 Robins, 5 Dunnocks, 3 Chiffchaffs, 1 Blackcap, 2 Firecrests, 2 Long-tailed Tits, 7 Blue Tits, 4 Great Tits, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 6 Pied Wagtails, 1 Grey Wagtail, 2 Swallows, 9 Blackbirds and 3 Chaffinches.


Fairlight CG/Warren Glen/Hastings CP (08.30 - 10.30): HONEY BUZZARD 1 W, Siskin 13 E, Goldfinch 21 E, Linnet 36 W, Lesser Redpoll 45 over, Chaffinch 24 W, Brambling 1 E, Crossbill 1 E, Great Spotted Woodpecker 2 E, Skylark 59 W inc flocks of 22 & 12, Reed Bunting 9 W and Meadow pipit 22 W. Also 38 Robins, 21 Dunnocks, 1 Blackcap, 8 Goldcrests, 2 Firecrests, 5 Song Thrushes, 17 Long-tailed Tits, 15 Great Tits, 2 Treecreepers and 70 Woodpigeons.


All Saints (09.10 - 10.00): 12 Robins, 2 Firecrests, 7 Chiffchaffs, 1 Long-tailed Tit and 4 Blackbirds.


Barley Lane/Covehurst/HCP (07.10 - 09.30): Lesser Redpoll 35 E and Siskin 20 E. Also 1 Sparrowhawk, 20 Sky Larks, 6 Goldcrests, 2 Firecrests, 5 Chiffchaffs, 25 Blackbirds, 1 Redwing, 25 Song Thrushes, 1 Grey Wagtail, 4 Reed Buntings, 30 Chaffinches and 1 Crossbill. (Andrew Grace).
