| Sighting Description |
Apologies for delayed posting, due to various technical problems. The attached falcon was seen on the cliff edge at Beachy Head on Saturday and had us puzzling over its warm, almost rufous, brown upperparts and very bleached greater coverts. Better (in focus!) pictures can be found on Martin Casemore's Sussex Bird Photos website (worth regular looks anyway), see http://www1.clikpic.com/Ploddingbirder/gallery_116147.html. In flight (when first seen) the bird had the structure of a Peregrine (which presumably at least one of its parents was) but looked very pale with a rufous head (recalling Lanner). That species may account for the other half of its parentage but it doesn't seem altogether right? Comments most welcome. |
