| Sighting Description |
Having observed and enjoyed the GREY PHALAROPE at Sidlesham Ferry, we decided to visit the Bracklesham Bay RSPB site. Having never been there before we did not know what we would find in the way of birds or habitat, so we were ill-prepared for the amazing sight of five GREY PHALAROPES swimming around in the large elongated pool and not another species of bird in sight! We then went back to visit Church Norton and Pagham Harbour which were showing signs of livening up with autumnal migrants and the start of some wintering visitors. Highlights were 3 Redstarts in Church Norton churchyard, 2 Kingfishers, 2 Curlew Sandpipers, 1 Greenshank and 1 Marsh Harrier in the harbour and, of course, many invisible unlocatable bush twitching, skulking birds in the bushes and reeds plus a variety of unidentified calls from unseen birds high up in the dense canopy of the trees.....aah! (or should it be perhaps aargh!) - the delights of autumn birdwatching? ( David Potter & Nigel Barnes). |
