Sighting Description

What a strange phase we are going through- the weather is almost summer like and the migrants are slowly arriving. This morning at Worthing beach we saw the last remnants of the winter with 100 Brent Geese moving eastwards with summer migrants being represented with a Yellow Wagtail, 10 Swallows, 5 Sand Martins, 10 Med Gulls and 2 Arctic Skuas. Later at Pulborough 1 Nightingale and a Lesser Whitethroat were new voices amongst the other warblers. The two suspect Snow Geese another reminder of colder climes (or warm duck pens?). This afternoon at Goring 18 Whimbrel and 3 Mediterranean Gulls reinforced the spring feel but the surprise was a female Goosander flying west just to add that winter touch. This was the first Sussex bird for me this year, why could I not find any in the depths of the winter? That is what bird watching is all about: you never know what is just round the corner.
