Sighting Description

I spent the day at a number of sites in the Langstone/Chichester/Pagham harbour area. It was certainly worth getting wet in the numerous showers. Langstone harbour (over the border in Hampshire) seemed to have the Lion's share of the waders - Farlington having 20++ Greenshank, 3+ Spotted Redshank, 10+ Snipe, 200 Black-tailed Godwit (some colour-ringed) superb flocks of summer plumage Grey Plover and Dunlin to name a few (one Dunlin being chased for over a mile by a Hobby). A brief walk at Thorney Island saw further Greenshank, Kestrel and 2 Common Buzzards. Pagham Harbour yielded 1 Green sandpiper (Ferry pool), 2+ Common Sandpipers (North wall), 2+ Greenshank (west side), 10++ Grey plover, 20+ Common Terns (including several youngsters), 3+ Sandwich Tern, numerous Med Gulls, 30+ Little Egrets, Cetti's warblers, many Sand Martins & Swallows feeding low in the showers, about 50 Black-tailed Godwits (a nice mix of adults and young in various plumages), Spotted Redshank and, saving the best for last, an adult Osprey perched in a tree sitting out the rain from the North Wall.
