Whilst seawatching recently, a Peregrine came in off the sea carrying a bulky prey item. As it approached the land another Peregrine flew out to meet it and in the subsequent interaction, whether aggressive or not was unknown, the prey item was dropped into the sea and revealed as a Collared Dove which was just alive but subsequently drowned. The Peregrines here seem to specialise in putting on a show s I recall last year they combined over a period of fifteen minutes to kill a Little Gull by literally wearing it out with a dual attack. Two nice spots today: a Ring Ouzel perched next to a Redwing at Hope Gap at 10.00, and later about noon a Dartford Warbler called and popped out of the gorse beside the 4th tee on Seaford Head golf course.

The resident screaming Herring Gulls alerted me to look up and see a single Buzzard high above Westdene at 10.15 this morning and later at 15.10 to see three more. All had been drifting slowly out of Brighton northwards towards the Dyke. Posted on 05 Apr 2009 by A Allan Smith

Once again my local seagulls, fellow residents here in Westdene North Brighton, sounded an alarm to draw my attention to a Red Kite flying NE. I just love those birds! Another first for my home list! Posted on 21 Apr 2009 by A. Allan Smith

I've sighted a huge bird of prey - twice now on the road between Littlehampton and Bognor (Littlehampton end). Yesterday when sighted, it was flying and had a very big wing span (over 100cm I would say), almost like the size of a goose in flight. Can anyone help with the identity? I agree that the Slindon raptor is a Common Buzzard. It is a common and well-documented habit for them to feed on worms in fields. Posted on 12 May 2008 by adam cheeseman

Male Harrier quatering ground just East of Nutbourne Station. Brief sighting seen from train - unable to determine species but able to make out black primaries on paler wings. Be grateful for feedback are harriers regualrly seen in this area at this time of year? Presumed it would not be hen harrier as thought more of a winter visitor. Was hunting over rough grassland so thought less likely to be Marsh? ... Montagu's?Posted on 05 Jun 2008 by Adam Fulton
