The BTO ran a national competition for the Best Annual Bird Report up until the bird reports for 2004. There were usually about 50 differing county bird reports being judged each year, and the Sussex Bird Report did very well in this competition. The 2004 Sussex Bird Report was judged joint best, our 2003 Report was judged 4th best and our 2001 and 2002 Reports were both judged equal 3rd best.
