Sighting Description

From Exceat to the sea, riverside 10.20 to 12.40. Some 44 curlews were at their roost in the fields (when do they feed, at night?) while on the river's mud were two whimbrel (which may have later joined the curlews), two adult oystercatchers and a pleasing group of five small waders - three little ringed plovers (adult and two juvs), an adult summer very well marked dunlin (perhaps of the race alpina?) and an adult summer-plumaged sanderling, a real beauty (pic of these two attached). Also some eight juv shelducks with various adults. Notable also was the abundance of common blue butterflies feeding along the path on yellow melilot and purple vetch (I've seen hardly any in West Sussex).
