Sighting Description

The conditions weren't great this morning, however a few birds of note were seen. Firstly on the dam two Little Ringed Plovers plus 15 Pied Wagtails. On the water 27 Great Crested Grebes but little else of note. In the river by the lagoon four newly fledged Grey Wagtails were a delight to watch as their parents tended to their needs, also here both Yellowhammer and Reed Bunting have raised families too. At least three Great Spotted Woodpeckers were seen below the dam and song was still loud and varied, by midday when the rain eased off Mistle and Song Thrush, two Garden Warblers, five Blackcaps, eight Common Whitethroats, Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler and three Goldcrests. Goldfinches were seen feeding young in the lane plus 135 Wood Pigeons that were in one single flock in the first field. At the west end a pair of Common Terns was still present also seven pairs of Great Crested Grebes are still nesting even though the water has risen considerably. The water level is now at its maximum. Best bird of the day goes to an Osprey that cruised out from the Admirals Wood area at 12.20, it disappeared towards the dam and was lost from view. I must admit I thought it had left, unless of course this is yet another bird. Lovely all the same.
