Sighting Description

Only a select gathering for the Birds of the Evening at Broadwater Warren outing - actually only the Outings Organiser and his wife! Forgivable though given the onslaught of unseasonable Atlantic depressions, the general impression that Nightjars had lost confidence in the traditional English summer, or perhaps the need to support England against Sweden! A reconnoitre the previous Friday had not inspired confidence. However birds sang: Robin, Blackbird, Willow Warbler, pipistrelle bats appeared and not long after 10 pm with "cu-leek' and wing clapping a Nightjar performed a flypast and later churred for 5 - 10 minutes before abandoning the idea of any further efforts.
