Male Merlin flew east to west across A23 in front of 4x4 approx 11.30 am.It was slightly North of Newtimber exit,I was heading North.

just seen my first ever red Kite, heading north west from Haywards Heath. Awesome!

A brief search this morning produced a female black redstart in the roadside bushes just to the east of the wood.

Caught up with one of the Royal Pavilion Firecrests this afternoon, a female that showed well in the large Elm just inside the North gate and the Buddleia beneath it, at about 3pm today. I didn't hear a singing male however.

This morning at 11:30 a Common Buzzard was soaring high above my (Preston Park area, Brighton) garden before drifting off south east, and this afternoon a Willow Warbler was insect-catching amongst the Prunus blossoms.

Two Whooper Swans on Ivy Lake Chichester, Sunday 25th March which flew off at 0743. They obviously did not realise that we are now on British Summer Time and that they should have left some time ago! Seen by John Dodd, Noel Silver and myself.

My first Common/Arctic terns of the year, a flock of 4 were watched from well out sw, eventually passing east but too far out for specific id. Also 5 G N Divers and 1 Red-throated os, 13 Sandwich Tern e, 16 Brent e, and coming in off were 39 M Pipits,9 Alba wagtails and a single Jackdaw. 0745-1145.

Lovely day at Cuckmere Haven, I have never heard so many Skylarks. Two separate male Stonechats, meadow pipits, 2 little Egrets, 2 Redshanks, Little Grebe, 3 Redshanks, 2 Oystercatchers and a Buzzard being the most notable birds. Sadly no Wheatears or hirundines.

Red Kite spotted crossing above the road to Devil's Dyke, heading in the direction of Ditchling Beacon on Sunday afternoon approx 3pm.

Whilst working in my garden near Barcombe a flock of at least 200 Jackdaws flew over heading north to north east. I thought this was a late date for migration as most around here are already prospecting nest sites, including my chimneys.

A single House Martin over our house this afternoon was a nice surprise. At least 2 pairs of Stonechats at Waltham Brooks early this morning with several singing Chiffchaffs and Reed Buntings and a pair of Little Egrets. Also 6 Linnets, Cetti's Warbler singing, Meadow Pipits displaying and quite a few Peacock butterflies about in the sunshine.

Red Kite flying NE over Penhurst @ 09.50. 4+ Buzzards, several Siskins, 2+ Blackcaps, single Raven, Grey Wagtail, Skylark.

Plenty of Chiffchaff song at lunchtime today (Sunday March 25th) right next to Stanmer House, Brighton, as well as beyond, into the woodland in the area. Also the distant 'laugh' of a Green Woodpecker, plus plenty of Great Tits. Not many birds were visible though, but the beautiful springtime soundscape more than made up for it!

Red Kite over Hove this morning. Others sighted recently include 1 over Brighton 1.15pm on 22 March; 2 east over Wildpark 11.15am on 23 March

the little gull showed well at 08:50, sat on the water quite close by with black headed gulls, then took to the air hawking gracefully near the far side. also here i heard 2 chiffchaff and 2 cetti's warbler singing, one from a small island on the lake.

Another Red Kite sighting to add to the tally... one seen from the A22 at Nutley, low over gardens at the south end of the village at 3pm.

Hi, with regard to the sighting by David Moon this would be a very early date for Spt Fly. The tail pumping sounds like a Chiffchaff as they will often take flies like a flycatcher and pump the tail. Bernie.

sorry this sighting is a bit late as I had no internet connection. Cylcing down to Thorney island along centurian way, at 08:36 I suddendly had to stop as i flushed a turtle dove from the path! luckily it didnt fly off far and it even dropped back onto the path in front of me quite close and fed with collared doves and wood pigeons. is this the first sighting of this species this year? anyway very nice, if rather lucky sighting. then onto thorney which was alot less eventfull but on the east side there was 4 Chiffchaff singing, 2 Common Buzzard, 4 little egret and 2 feral barnacle geese flew east past me, amoungst a flock of brent geese, maybe these were the birds that owen mitchell saw at chichester gravel pits on 25th?? the tip of thorney was quiet but there was one lapwing sitting on eggs in the rough fields and also 3 possibly 4 kestrel hunting around the area. on the west side there was 12+ red breasted merganser, 2 med gull, 2 more singing chiffchaff, 2 greenshank on the great deep, 6+ little grebe and 1 singing cetti's warbler on the little deeps.

A male pheasant, sadly not a fancy or aristocratic one, was walking along the pavement in suburban Crawley this evening during The Archers. It was obeying the Highway Code as it went past our house. A first time for everything!
